Me, Age 4
My sisters, My Grandma, and I
My Great Grandmother paid for my grandma's tap lessons, starting a generational love for dance.
My Grandma eventually started her own dance studio, teaching my aunts and mother all types of dance: ballet, jazz, character, tap, etc.
Their love of dance spread to me.
I love to tell the story of how I have been dancing since I was 1! At the end of a ballet recital put together by my Grandma's studio, I was carried across the stage with a sign taped to my outfit that read "The End."
Since then, I have grown to love dance and the freedom it grants me. It gives me a way to express myself and connect with other people who feel the same way.

I first began to love reading once I learned that stories could transport you to new and interesting worlds without having to leave your house. Once I learned of this, I read every book I could get my hands on.
My family is used to me reading in my room for hours on end, reading on trips, and even reading at the dinner table!
My siblings are proficient readers as well, and are always stealing away with my books when I am not looking. My parents have always encouraged our reading habits, and we have taken many trips to libraries and bookstores.
In 5th grade, I had already started reading at a college grade level, and that level of comprehension has helped me throughout my education.
For many, the love of reading usually translates to the love of learning as well. Because of this, I want to share the joy books bring me with everyone I can.
I want to give children the excitement I experience when opening up a new book--excited for the adventure they are about to embark on.
